H&DFL’s first ever Junior Champions League Cup Final was played at BSFC on Wednesday night (5th May) in front of a crowd of 200 and contesting it was Matching United Res and Eppaldo FC.
In the 3rd min of the game, Eppaldo cleared a long ball out of defence; Matching Keeper Adkins deliberated which let Holland poke the ball through his legs and into an open goal, 1-0 Eppaldo. In the 13th min Holland plays a great through ball to Allen only for J French to make a superb block to deny Allen’s shot. Only a minute later and matching have their first shot on goal, A Weaving hit a great shot from 20yds but Keene was equal to it. In the 20th minute things got worse for Matching as a poor back pass is intercepted by Holland who is clean thru but unselfishly squares for Cole to tap in, 2-0 Eppaldo. A Luke Berry corner for Eppaldo is glanced inches wide by Captain Warren, in the 33rd minute Matching’s M Malin shows great footwork to get into the box but pulls his shot just wide. In the 39th min, Ben Ford puts a lovely cross in from 20yds but Connolly’s header goes just over the bar. Half Time 2-0 Eppaldo.
5 mins into the second half and Eppaldo make it 3-0, Luke Berry crosses from the edge of the box and the ever present Holland smashes a diving header into the back of the net, in the 55th min Ben Ford’s Shot is brilliantly saved by Keene and cleared to safety, Matching pull a goal back in the 59th min when Connoly beats the offside trap and coolly rounds Keene to tap in, 3-1 Eppaldo but only a minute later and Cole finds himself with an easy tap in to make it 4-1 Eppaldo, in the 65th min, Holland accepts a gift error from Matching to make it 5-1, Matching have fallen to pieces now as only 1 minute later Luke Berry plays a superb thru ball to Allen who rounds Adkins and makes it 6-1 Eppaldo, 2 minutes later and it was 7-1, Warren’s turn and shot inside the box almost bursts the net. In the 72nd min a Luke Berry cross is volleyed home by Allen, beautiful strike and it’s 8-1. A minute later and Matching Keeper Adkins picks up a yellow card for handball outside the area, Matching would not give up and in the 80th min Weaving beats his defender and smashes past Keene to make it 8-2 and Matching were not finished there as in the last minute of the game Ben Ford crosses for Palmer to get on the end of it and nod into the net 8-3 Eppaldo and the final whistle sounds.
